Attenuator

A device designed to absorb or dissipate kinetic energy during a collision, thereby reducing the severity of impact for vehicles or occupants. In transport, these are often seen as crash cushions or impact absorption systems placed at hazardous locations on roads. Attenuators are engineered to deform progressively, slowing down an impacting vehicle safely.
