A crash cushion mounted on the rear of a work-zone truck to shield highway workers by absorbing the energy of a vehicle that strikes the truck from behind. Truck-mounted attenuators are crash tested under the AASHTO Manual for Assessing Safety Hardware, which replaced NCHRP Report 350, and not under the MUTCD, which governs signs and markings.
