Crash box
Term · Industrial and trades · MLC-T-IND-006893
A type of manual transmission that lacks synchronizer rings, requiring the driver to manually match the rotational speeds of the input and output shafts before engaging a gear. To shift without grinding the gears, the driver must use techniques like double-clutching. This design was common in early automobiles and is still found in some heavy-duty trucks and racing vehicles where durability is prioritized over comfort.
