Crash gearbox

A type of manual transmission that lacks synchronizers, requiring the driver to carefully match engine speed to road speed when shifting gears. Without synchronizers, gear changes involve double-clutching or precise rev-matching to avoid grinding the gears. This design was common in older vehicles before the widespread adoption of synchromesh transmissions.
