Attosecond
Term · Industrial and trades · MLC-T-IND-000320
A unit of time equal to one quintillionth (10⁻¹⁸) of a second. This timescale is relevant for measuring extremely rapid phenomena occurring at the atomic level, particularly the motion of electrons within atoms and molecules. Measurements in this domain are performed using high-intensity, short-pulse lasers that generate attosecond light pulses to probe electron dynamics.
