Term · Industrial and trades · MLC-T-IND-002229
A unit of mass equal to 10^-15 gram. It is used for very small particles such as individual viruses and large molecular assemblies in biochemistry and nanotechnology. One femtogram equals the mass of about 600 million hydrogen atoms, so single atoms and small molecules are measured in much smaller units.
