Autonomation
Term · Industrial and trades · MLC-T-IND-006764
A form of automation that incorporates a supervisory human-like intelligence, allowing machines to operate autonomously but also to stop and signal for human intervention upon detecting a defect or abnormality. This concept, also known as jidoka, prevents the mass production of defective parts by halting the process at the source of the problem. The machine remains stopped until a worker corrects the issue and restarts the line.
