Back-butter

To apply a layer of adhesive, typically thin-set mortar, directly to the back of a tile before placing it on a prepared substrate. This technique is used in tile installation to achieve full coverage of the tile's back, preventing voids that could lead to cracking or dislodgement. It is particularly recommended for large format tiles or uneven tile backs.
