Straw nail
Term · Industrial and trades · MLC-T-IND-007289
A thin, long nail with a small head, designed for light-duty fastening where splitting the wood is a concern. Originally used for attaching straw thatch to a roof structure, these nails are now used in applications like crating, box assembly, and attaching thin wood strips or molding. Their slender shank displaces less wood fiber than a common nail, reducing the chance of splitting, particularly near the edge of a board.
