Nail sick
Term · Industrial and trades · MLC-T-IND-003829
Describing a roof, or a roof covering, whose nails have corroded or otherwise deteriorated so that the slates, tiles, or shingles are no longer held firmly. It is common on old roofs fastened with iron or steel nails, where the nail shanks rust through while the roofing units themselves remain sound. Repair usually means stripping the covering and refixing it with corrosion-resistant nails, such as copper.
