Nail sickness

A condition in timber where the wood fibers around embedded nails have deteriorated due to corrosion of the fasteners. This degradation is caused by moisture ingress, which accelerates the rusting of the nails and leads to expansion and chemical reactions within the wood. It compromises the holding power of the nails and the strength of the timber.
