Sinker

Term · Industrial and trades · MLC-T-IND-005303

A type of framing nail with a conical head and a textured face, designed to be driven flush with or slightly below the wood surface. The grid pattern on the head prevents the hammer from slipping during installation. Sinker nails are thinner in diameter than common nails of the same length, which reduces the likelihood of splitting the wood, and are often coated with vinyl to increase holding power.
