Back-counterbore
Term · Industrial and trades · MLC-T-IND-000369
A machining operation that creates a cylindrical recess on the back side of a pre-drilled hole, typically to accommodate the head of a fastener. This process requires a specialized tool that can pass through the existing hole and then expand to cut the larger diameter. The resulting counterbore provides a flush or sub-flush seating for components.
