Back-spotface

To machine a flat, circular surface around a hole on the blind side of a workpiece, or the side opposite the tool entry. This operation provides a clean, perpendicular bearing surface for a fastener head or washer. Specialized back-spotfacing tools are designed with expandable cutters to perform this task.
