Backloading
Term · Industrial and trades · MLC-T-IND-000376
The practice of loading a transport vehicle with cargo for its return journey after completing an initial delivery. This process avoids an empty return trip, or deadhead, by finding a secondary load that needs to be moved along the vehicle's route back to its origin or next pickup point. The pricing for backloaded freight is often lower than standard rates because the primary costs of the journey are covered by the initial outbound shipment.
