Binary-coded decimal, a system for encoding decimal numbers where each decimal digit is represented by its own four-bit binary code. For example, the decimal number 39 is represented as 0011 1001 in BCD, not as a single binary number. This encoding is often used in digital displays and financial calculations where exact decimal representation is required.
