Big ugly dish
Term · Industrial and trades · MLC-T-IND-006794
An early type of large, mesh-construction satellite television antenna, popular from the late 1970s to the early 1990s for receiving C-band signals. These dishes, measuring from 6 to 12 feet (1.8 to 3.7 meters) in diameter, were required to capture the low-power analog signals broadcast from first-generation satellites. They became largely obsolete with the advent of smaller, more powerful Ku-band direct-broadcast satellite systems that use dishes under one meter in diameter.
