Bite
Term · Industrial and trades · MLC-T-IND-000572
The etching action of an acid solution on a printing plate, which removes non-image areas to create a relief or intaglio surface. This chemical process selectively dissolves metal, deepening the recessed areas for intaglio printing or lowering the non-printing areas for relief printing. The duration and strength of the acid bath determine the depth of the etch, measured in micrometers.
