Black hole
Term · Industrial and trades · MLC-T-IND-000580
A visual illusion experienced by pilots during night landings over unlit terrain or water, where the absence of ground lights makes it difficult to judge altitude and distance. This can lead to an optical illusion of being higher than actual, resulting in a lower-than-intended approach. Pilots rely heavily on instruments in such conditions.
