A secondary member of a ship's framing that projects from the main frames to support the side of the vessel. Branches are curved timbers or steel sections that extend from the futtocks or main frame ribs, contributing to the overall transverse strength and shape of the hull. They are distinct from the floors, which form the bottom part of a transverse frame, and the top timbers, which form the upper part.
