Buffer stop

A device installed at the end of a railway track to prevent rolling stock from running off the end. It is designed to absorb the kinetic energy of an impacting train, minimizing damage to the train and surrounding structures. Buffer stops are commonly found in station platforms, sidings, and freight yards.
