Bulletproof vest

A protective torso garment that stops bullets by absorbing and spreading their impact energy, built from layers of aramid or polyethylene fibres such as Kevlar or Dyneema, or from rigid ceramic or steel plates. In the United States its ballistic protection is rated under National Institute of Justice standards, while stab resistance is covered by a separate standard.
