Calandria

A type of shell and tube heat exchanger used for heating or boiling liquids in large industrial vessels, such as evaporators and reactors. It consists of a cylindrical bundle of vertical tubes enclosed within a shell, with one fluid passing through the tubes and the other circulating around them in the shell. In sugar manufacturing, calandrias are used in vacuum pans to boil sugarcane juice for crystallization.
