Cat's whisker
Term · Industrial and trades · MLC-T-IND-001006
A fine, pointed wire, typically made of a springy metal, used in early radio receivers to make contact with a sensitive spot on a semiconductor crystal. This contact formed a crude point-contact diode, rectifying radio frequency signals into audio. It was a key component in crystal radio sets, requiring careful adjustment for optimal reception.
