Cazo process
Term · Industrial and trades · MLC-T-IND-001019
An ancient hydrometallurgical method for extracting silver from its ores, particularly those containing silver chlorides. This process involves heating crushed ore with water, salt, and copper in a large, shallow copper-lined pan called a cazo. The copper reacts with the silver chloride to form metallic silver, which then amalgamates with mercury added to the mixture.
