Liquation
Term · Industrial and trades · MLC-T-IND-003369
A metallurgical process involving the separation of components in an alloy based on their differing melting points. The alloy is heated to a temperature where one component melts, allowing it to be drained away from the solid, higher-melting point constituents. This technique is used for refining metals and removing impurities, such as separating lead from silver.
