Cheek

An intermediate section of a multi-part sand casting mold, positioned between the cope (top section) and the drag (bottom section). Cheeks are used to form features on a casting that cannot be molded with a simple two-part flask, such as undercuts or recessed details. A mold can have one or more cheeks stacked between the cope and drag to accommodate complex geometries.
