Climbing lane

An additional lane provided on an uphill grade of a roadway to accommodate slower-moving vehicles, such as heavy trucks. This lane allows faster traffic to pass without impedance, maintaining traffic flow and reducing congestion. Climbing lanes are typically implemented on grades exceeding 3% over a sustained distance.
