A designation for a High-Occupancy Vehicle, which is a passenger vehicle carrying a specified minimum number of people. This classification is used to grant access to restricted traffic lanes, known as HOV lanes or carpool lanes, intended to encourage ridesharing and reduce congestion. The minimum occupancy requirement, typically two or three persons including the driver, is posted on signs at the entrance to the lane.
