Comminution

The process of reducing the particle size of solid material through crushing, grinding, or other mechanical forces. In mineral processing, it is the stage where extracted ore is broken down to liberate valuable minerals from the surrounding waste rock, or gangue, before separation. Comminution circuits typically involve multiple stages, starting with primary crushers for large rocks and ending with ball mills or rod mills for fine grinding.
