A narrow, lightweight bed, such as a folding bunk or canvas hammock, used for sleeping accommodations on a vessel. Its design prioritizes space efficiency and stowage in the confined quarters of submarines, warships, and merchant ships. Shipboard cots are secured to the bulkhead or deck structure and are distinct from freestanding berths or permanent bunks found in larger cabins.
