De-electrify

To remove the overhead lines or third rail systems that provide electrical power to trains on a specific railway line or section. This process often occurs when a line is closed, converted to diesel operation, or when the cost of maintaining the electrical infrastructure outweighs its benefits. De-electrification involves dismantling catenary structures and associated power supply equipment.
