Neutral section

A short, un-energized segment of overhead line equipment or third rail in an electrified railway system, used to separate different electrical supply zones or phases. Trains must coast through these sections, with power temporarily cut off, to prevent electrical short circuits or phase mismatches. Warning signs indicate the approach to a neutral section.
