Split-phase power

A type of single-phase alternating current electrical power distribution that uses three wires: two live (hot) wires and one neutral wire. The two live wires are 180 degrees out of phase with each other, providing 240 volts between them and 120 volts between each live wire and the neutral. This configuration is common in residential and light commercial buildings in North America.
