To divide a continuous material, such as a web or sheet, into narrower sections. This process is performed by cutting the material longitudinally using blades or lasers. In manufacturing, splitting is a common operation for converting large rolls of film, paper, or fabric into smaller, manageable widths for subsequent processing.
