Fox
Term · Industrial and trades · MLC-T-IND-002427
A type of wedge or small metal key used to expand the split end of a bolt or pin to secure it within a hole, a technique known as foxing or a fox-tail wedge. The bolt is prepared with a split end and a tapered hole, and the fox is inserted before driving the bolt into its final position. As the bolt seats, the fox is forced into the split, expanding the end and creating a tight, permanent fit that resists withdrawal.
