Gad
Term · Industrial and trades · MLC-T-IND-002495
A pointed steel wedge or bar used in mining and quarrying to break apart rock and ore by hand. The tool is driven into existing fissures or pre-drilled holes with a sledgehammer, using mechanical advantage to split large blocks of stone. Gads vary in length, but a common type for hand use is a short, tapered bar that a miner can hold and strike to loosen material at the working face.
