Drawboy
Term · Industrial and trades · MLC-T-IND-001846
The person, historically a child, who assisted a weaver by manually lifting and lowering specific sets of warp threads on a drawloom to create complex figured patterns. This laborious process required the drawboy to follow a sequence of commands or a chart to produce brocades, damasks, and other intricate textiles. The invention of the Jacquard mechanism in 1804 automated this function, making the role of the drawboy obsolete.
