A system of cords in a drawloom or Jacquard loom that connects the harness cords to the pattern-making mechanism. Each simple cord corresponds to a specific group of warp threads that must be lifted together to form one element of the weave pattern. In a drawloom, these cords were manually pulled by an operator, while in a Jacquard machine they are controlled by the pattern cards or electronic signals.
