Simple harmonic motion
Term · Industrial and trades · MLC-T-IND-005292
A type of periodic motion where the restoring force is directly proportional to the displacement from an equilibrium position and acts in the opposite direction. This motion is characterized by a sinusoidal oscillation, such as that of a mass on a spring or a simple pendulum at small angles. Its period is independent of the amplitude.
