Indifferent
Term · Industrial and trades · MLC-T-IND-003006
Relating to a state of equilibrium where a body, after a small displacement, remains in the new position without any tendency to move further or return to its original state. This condition occurs when the potential energy of the system is constant for any small displacement from the equilibrium position. A perfect sphere resting on a perfectly flat horizontal surface is in indifferent equilibrium, contrasting with the stable equilibrium of a ball in a bowl.
