Dust jacket

A detachable outer cover, usually made of paper, that wraps around the hardcovers of a book. It serves to protect the book from dirt and damage while also providing space for promotional text, author biographies, and graphic design elements. This protective covering is removed before reading and is a common feature on hardcover publications.
