Gaiter

A protective flexible cover, typically made of rubber or synthetic material, designed to shield moving parts from dirt, dust, and moisture. In automotive applications, gaiters are found on components such as steering racks, CV joints, and gear shifter linkages. They prevent contamination that could lead to premature wear and failure of mechanical components.
