Filament

A continuous, single strand of fiber of indefinite length, as opposed to a staple fiber which is short. Natural filaments include silk, while synthetic filaments are produced by extruding polymers through a spinneret. These continuous strands are often used to create smooth, lustrous fabrics with minimal pilling.
