Monofilament
Term · Industrial and trades · MLC-T-IND-003742
A single, continuous strand of synthetic fiber, produced by extruding a polymer through a spinneret. Unlike multifilament yarns which are composed of many smaller filaments twisted together, monofilament consists of just one solid strand with a circular or non-circular cross-section. Its properties, such as diameter, strength, and stiffness, are controlled during the extrusion process, with common materials including nylon, polyester, and polypropylene.
