A length of semi-finished metal with a square or circular cross-section, produced by continuous casting or by rolling a larger ingot or bloom. Billets serve as the raw material for secondary forming processes such as rolling, forging, and extrusion to create long products. The cross-sectional area of a billet is smaller than that of a bloom, with dimensions that are less than 155 millimeters on each side.
