Blooming

The initial hot rolling process that reduces large ingots or continuously cast slabs into intermediate products called blooms. This process breaks down the cast structure, refines the grain, and improves the mechanical properties of the metal. Blooms are typically square or rectangular in cross-section and are further rolled into billets or structural shapes.
