Fill soil

Earthen material used to raise the elevation of a site, backfill excavations, or create engineered embankments and landforms. It consists of a mixture of subsoil, sand, clay, and rock fragments, sourced either from on-site excavation (cut) or imported from an external borrow pit. The suitability of fill soil is determined by its geotechnical properties, such as particle size distribution, moisture content, and compaction characteristics.
