Term · Industrial and trades · MLC-T-IND-002334
An early type of railway rail consisting of a simple flat bar or strip of cast or wrought iron. These bars were laid directly onto wooden stringers or stone blocks, providing a durable running surface for flanged wheels. This design was a precursor to more complex rail profiles like the T-rail and was common on industrial tramways and early railways in the 18th and early 19th centuries.
