Flying meet

Term · Industrial and trades · MLC-T-IND-002376

A meeting of two opposing trains on a nominally single-track line in which both reach the passing siding at the same time and pass without either stopping. It depends on carefully timed running, because ordinarily one train waits in the siding for the other to cross. It is not a flying junction, the grade-separated layout in which one track is carried over another on a bridge.
